WIBTA if I ended a friendship over $1?

I (21F) and my friend, let's call him B, (21M) are in a small educational program and see each other every day for 10-ish hours a day.

We are in a friend group with 3 others (21F, 22F, and 22M). Two weeks ago, B and the other guy decided they wanted to have a movie night and watch The Emoji Movie.

The girls weren't super enthusiastic, but B convinced us to come by luring us with fresh- baked brownies. It takes me and the other 2 girls ~30 minutes to get to his apartment, including a 15-minute walk entirely uphill in 80-degree heat.

Upon arrival, he does not have the brownies as promised. The Emoji Movie was $3.49 and he hadn't rented it yet.

Maybe 5 minutes after we sat down, he asked all the girls to Venmo him $1 each if we wanted to watch The Emoji Movie, or we could watch some weird and very horribly-animated Christian movie with 4 reviews for free.

At first, we did not think his request for $1 from each of the women was genuine, and we were kind of shocked and side- eyeing. But it became clear that he was actually requesting that we all Venmo him $1 or we would be subjected to that weird movie.

Upon receiving all $3, he purchased the movie (that we really didn't want to watch anyway) and we watched it through.

At no point in the movie did he have any brownies out (literally the whole reason I came, which I stated when responding to his text invite), and instead gave all the girls one bag of microwave popcorn to share, while he and the other guy drank some beer that they did not offer to us.

We watched the movie and then began our trek home. All 3 of us girls are annoyed because we were lured with brownies that we did not get, and had to venmo a man ($1!!) for a stupid movie he wanted to watch,

while the only other man there was not asked to pay (because he brought a snack that the two of them shared), all after making a long and strenuous commute to his apartment.

We had also previously hosted him at our apartment (me and 21F are roommates) and provided alcol and snacks, which he enjoyed, and we did not expect, request, or receive any money from him in exchange.

He also goes out regularly and buys coffee every day, so I do not think he is financially struggling.

Am I the a h le for being annoyed at him? Would I be the a hole if I gave him a hard time for this tomorrow? Or ended our friendship over this?

All 3 of the girls are very offended. For context, this is not the first time he has been kind of ah le-ish to us, and specifically to the girls. Thank you!

KissKrakenn He made you pay a cover charge for The Emoji Movie. Let that sentence marinate. The dollar is the cost of learning his friendship isn't a two-way street. You're not ending it over money, you're ending it because he's the human version of a pop-up ad. Stop commuting for someone who values you less than his daily coffee.

Thoreau80 The three of you should have gone somewhere to buy brownies, sent him of photographed them, and sent him a venmo request for the price of the brownies.

citizen-wasp NTA and for the record: you're not ending a friendship over $1, you're ending it because of the lies and manipulation he and his friends coerced you and your friends into. This dude and his like-minded friends are bad news. Don't feel guilty about ending it. You deserve better and he doesn't need an explanation.

Constant-Wanderer I know this guy. We all know this guy. Not this individual specifically, but this guy in general.

You don't need to confront him or get your dollar back, consider it a cheap exit fee away from him and his ridiculous self. His issues aren't going to be solved by your involvement, and you're not responsible for helping an adult man figure out how to be a better friend. YWNBTA

RadiantSpeech6001 I personally wouldn't have ended the friendship I would have got my money back another way without him realizing I was doing it and then I would have ended it. And I probably would have gotten double just to be a d k. You don't need people like that in your life will always be trying to scam on you

scarletorchidstrike honestly, I get why ur annoyed. $1 seems small but it's more about the principle, especially after the long walk and no brownies

Automatic-Truth-4220 My feeling is that he's not really a friend and was using you three for personal and selfish reasons. I'd say disengage and leave them alone in the future. let him find new friends

InspectionBudget If this person is supposed to be your friend and literally asked you guys to venmo him a dollar | would have just turned around and said enjoy your movie dude I'm going home I don't know that I would end the friendship over it but I definitely wouldn't be watching movies at this dude's house anymore

Competitive_Test6697 NTA - would he choose that movie? Was an abject failure for kids nevermind actual grow adults with a selection of thousands of movies.
